Still Bending Towards Justice

Dear Community,

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day—the day we honor a Black man who lived his life fighting for justice—falls on the same day that the 47th president, aka Trump (yes, him again) strolls back into the Oval Office with his truly incompetent collective of groupies. His second term is full of the same racism, sexism, classism, homophobia, and every other brand of BS we fight tooth and nail to overcome.

Doesn’t this feel like some tragic ish?

But here’s the thing: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is about recognizing the strength, resilience, and sheer power we’ve always had as a community. So, as we gear up to face four more years of this guy, let’s remember Dr. King’s iconic words: “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”

We’ve bent this arc before— with sweat, with tears, and by sheer force of will—and dammit, we will absolutely do it again.

Watch here as Nana Gyamfi, Executive Director of the Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI), delivers an electrifying speech, at the People’s March in DC, that calls for unity, resilience, and action.

Let us view the next four years not as a place of fear, but as an opportunity to come together as a collective community to strategize, organize, and empower one another. Together, we will continue building a strong foundation for our communities and support each other through struggle as we fight for Black liberation.

At BAJI, we continue to witness the power of solidarity. From Oakland to Miami, Atlanta to Brooklyn and Los Angeles to Houston, we fight for policies that uplift the Black Diaspora, defend families from deportation, and create spaces for healing and resistance. As Mariame Kaba reminds us: hope is a discipline. Hope is the action we take together.

Let’s continue bending the arc of justice toward freedom, hope, and dignity.

In solidarity and power,
The Black Alliance for Just Immigration
