Organizational Summary:
The Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI) is a racial justice and migrant rights organization that organizes and advocates to strengthen a national movement to end racism, criminalization, and economic disenfranchisement in Black immigrant and African American communities. BAJI’s headquarters are in Brooklyn, NY, with additional chapters in Oakland, Washington.DC, Miami, Atlanta, Houston, and Los Angeles.
At the heart of BAJI’s mission is our essential organizing work. Our organizing centers on Black Americans and Black migrants working together to become leaders in the fight against structural racism and systemic discrimination. BAJI has organizers in major cities with Black migrant populations, such as New York City, Atlanta, Miami, Houston, Los Angeles, and Oakland. We also have a national youth organizer who works on youth programming. Our organizers are deeply ingrained in their local communities. They leverage those ties to work on various regional and national issues, including civic engagement, coalition building, working with local officials, organizing actions, and more.
Position Summary:
As a senior staff member within our dynamic organization, the Operations Director will lead and maintain BAJI’s infrastructure, enabling the organization to expand its reach and engagement in the racial justice and immigrant rights movements. Specifically, the Operations Director will lead “people operations,” knowledge management, administrative planning, and implementation, and support financial, fundraising, and internal communications efforts. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented administration and operations professional to use creativity and innovation to further advance the infrastructure of one of the nation’s premier racial justice and migrant rights organizations. As the face of BAJI in various forums, the Operations Director will also cultivate meaningful partnerships and compellingly articulate our mission to a broader audience.

- Proven experience scaling a multi-site not-for-profit organization.
- Strong management skills with experience in leading a diverse team.
- Analytical and decision-making abilities with a bottom-line orientation.
- Strategic vision with the ability to anticipate future trends and incorporate them into planning.
- Exceptional capacity for managing and leading people with a track record of building a top-notch team.
- Action-oriented with the ability to react effectively, even with limited information.
- General management skills with experience in strategic development and planning, budgeting, business analysis, human resources, and marketing.
- Solid educational background with an undergraduate degree required, an MBA or similar advanced degree highly desired.
