Statement on Build Back Better

BAJI: By not passing the Build Back Better bill, Democrats are reneging on their promises

Wednesday, Dec 22nd, 2021-  Democrats are reneging on their promises by failing to pass the Build Back Better (BBB) bill. Both the BBB debacle and the failure to pass federal voting legislation before the Congressional winter break are a reminder that this political circus is built on betrayals and broken promises to voters.

Our communities delivered the Democrats the White House, Senate, and the House and in the first year, they have failed us, again. It is disgraceful that Democratic leadership in the Senate, House, and the White House all ignored the strategic warning from progressive members in the House that the BBB bill would perish once it was separated from the infrastructure bill.  As Black people, we cannot afford the President’s teetering when he could be using all the tools at his disposal. As we move toward 2022, we must remember to continue fighting to protect ourselves and that U.S democracy is an illusion for Black people.

While we cannot underscore enough the losses experienced by our communities this year because of the Biden administration, we join others in the commitment to continue being there for each other. We will not stop fighting for the support and protection our communities need – including voting rights – and we caution that electeds not take Black voters and our communities for granted.
